Fresh off his bison photograph inspiring the creation of a new Forever US postage stamp, Livingston, Montana nature photographer Tom Murphy was recently featured on CBS Saturday Morning. You can watch it below.

Murphy, whose work is synonymous with Yellowstone and who is also legendary for his treks across the middle of Yellowstone in winter, braving blizzards, sub-zero temperatures and deep snows, is these days advocating to have more of the Gallatin Mountain Range as wilderness.

He was featured on a segment of CBS Saturday Morning called “USA to Z” as part of the 250th celebration marking the signing of the Declaration of Independence. For the letter “Y,” network reporter Kelly O’Grady joined Murphy in Yellowstone. It featured Murphy’s expansive portfolio assembled over the last half century.

“What I’m trying to do is create connection, the value of wild country,” Murphy told O’Grady. “We evolved in wild country. We evolved in wilderness. I’d like to help people reconnection with what’s really important.”

Journalist O’Grady herself also delivered a message that seems just right. “More than 150 years since its creation, Yellowstone National Park helped define one of America’s most enduring conservation ideals, that some places are too meaningful to be consumed, too beautiful to be lost.”
