Author: Chris Madson

Through his award-winning writing, editing and photography, as well as hunting, fishing and wandering down trails well off the beaten path, Chris Madson has kept his finger on the pulse of conservation issues in the interior West. He holds a master’s degree in wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked for state wildlife agencies in Kansas and Wyoming for 36 years before retiring in 2014 to write full-time. Based in Cheyenne, he is best known for formerly being editor of Wyoming Wildlife Magazine, published by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.  He is a certified wildlife biologist with The Wildlife Society. After completing a master’s degree in wildlife ecology at the University of Wisconsin, Chris pursued a career in conservation communication. He has received the Special Award for Conservation from the National Wildlife Federation, the Conservation Communicator of the Year award from Ducks Unlimited, the Excellence in Craft and Jade of Chiefs—Outstanding Service to Conservation awards from the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and the first annual Biodiversity Conservation Award from the University of Wyoming’s Berry Biodiversity Institute.
